2024-05-13wifi: ath12k: initialize 'ret' in ath12k_qmi_load_file_target_mem()Jeff Johnson
smatch flagged the following issue: drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath12k/qmi.c:2619 ath12k_qmi_load_file_target_mem() error: uninitialized symbol 'ret'. The reality is that 'ret' is initialized in every path through ath12k_qmi_load_file_target_mem() except one, the case where the input 'len' is 0, and hence the "while (remaining)" loop is never entered. But to make sure this case is also handled, add an initializer to the declaration of 'ret'. No functional changes, compile tested only. 2024-05-03wifi: ath12k: Introduce device indexKarthikeyan Periyasamy
Introduce a device index parameter in the ath12k_base structure. This value is used as unique identifier for devices involved in Inter-device MLO. It is also used to configure the MLO parameter within the QMI host capability send request. While currently set to zero, future logic will be added for inter device support to populate this parameter with non-zero values. 2024-04-30wifi: ath12k: check M3 buffer size as well whey trying to reuse itBaochen Qiang
Currently in recovery/resume cases, we do not free M3 buffer but instead will reuse it. This is done by checking m3_mem->vaddr: if it is not NULL we believe M3 buffer is ready and go ahead to reuse it. Note that m3_mem->size is not checked. This is safe for now because currently M3 reuse logic only gets executed in recovery/resume cases and the size keeps unchanged in either of them. However ideally the size should be checked as well, to make the code safer. So add the check there. Now if that check fails, free old M3 buffer and reallocate a new one. 2024-04-24wifi: ath12k: set mlo_capable_flags based on QMI PHY capabilityRaj Kumar Bhagat
Currently, mlo_capable_flags is set to zero if dualmac device is detected based on One Time Programmable (OTP) register value. This is not generic and in future dualmac devices may support Single Link Operation (SLO) and Multi Link Operation (MLO). Thus, set mlo_capable_flags based on 'single_chip_mlo_support' parameter from QMI PHY capability response message from the firmware. Also, add check on mlo_capable_flags to disable MLO parameter in the host capability QMI request message. If the firmware does not respond with this optional parameter 'single_chip_mlo_support' in QMI PHY capability response, default ab->mlo_capable_flags is used. 2024-04-24wifi: ath12k: read single_chip_mlo_support parameter from QMI PHY capabilityRaj Kumar Bhagat
New parameter 'single_chip_mlo_support' was added in QMI PHY capability response message. This is an optional parameter added in QCN9274 firmware. This parameter states if the firmware supports Single-Link Operation (SLO) and Multi-Link Operation (MLO) within the same device. If single_chip_mlo_support = 1, then intra device SLO/MLO is supported in the firmware. If single_chip_mlo_support = 0, then intra device SLO/MLO is not supported in the firmware. Hence, add support to read 'single_chip_mlo_support' parameter from the QMI PHY capability response message. 2024-04-23wifi: ath12k: do not dump SRNG statistics during resumeBaochen Qiang
Both the firmware reset feature and the power management suspend/resume feature share common power-down and power-up functionality. One aspect of the power-up functionality is the handling of the ATH12K_QMI_EVENT_FW_INIT_DONE event. When this event is received, a call is made to ath12k_hal_dump_srng_stats(), with the purpose to collect information that may be useful in debugging the cause of a firmware reset. Unfortunately, since this functionality is shared between both the firmware reset path and the power management resume path, the kernel log is flooded with messages during resume. Since these messages are not useful during resume, and in fact can be confusing and can increase the time it takes to resume, update the logic to only call ath12k_hal_dump_srng_stats() during firmware reset. If suspend is triggered, firmware will be reloaded during resume. As same as before, firmware requests two large segments at first. In ath12k_qmi_msg_mem_request_cb() segment count and size are assigned: ab->qmi.mem_seg_count == 2 ab->qmi.target_mem[0].size == 7077888 ab->qmi.target_mem[1].size == 8454144 Then allocation failed like before and ath12k_qmi_free_target_mem_chunk() is called to free all allocated segments. Note the first segment is skipped because its v.addr is cleared due to allocation failure: chunk->v.addr = dma_alloc_coherent() Also note that this leaks that segment because it has not been freed. While freeing the second segment, a size of 8454144 is passed to dma_free_coherent(). However remember that this segment is allocated at the first time firmware is loaded, before suspend. So its real size is 524288, much smaller than 8454144. As a result kernel found we are freeing some memory which is in use and thus crashed. So one possible fix would be to free those segments during suspend. This works because with them freed, ath12k_qmi_free_target_mem_chunk() does nothing: all segment addresses are NULL so dma_free_coherent() is not called. But note that ath11k has similar logic but never hits this issue. Reviewing code there shows the luck comes from QMI memory reuse logic. So the decision is to port it to ath12k. Like in ath11k, the crash is avoided by adding prev_size to target_mem_chunk structure and caching real segment size in it, then prev_size instead of current size is passed to dma_free_coherent(), no unexpected memory is freed now. Also reuse m3 buffer. By default driver supports intra-device SLO/MLO, the link capability flags reflect this. When the QMI PHY capability learning fails driver not enable the MLO parameter in the host capability QMI request message. To accommodate inter-device SLO/MLO capabilities within the same variable, modify the existing variable name and type. 2024-02-02wifi: ath12k: disable QMI PHY capability learn in split-phy QCN9274Raj Kumar Bhagat
QMI PHY capability learn is used to get PHY count information to support single/multi link operation (SLO/MLO) configuration. The QCN9274 dualmac firmware currently do not support SLO/MLO, if two PHYs are within the same chip. Due to this firmware crashes in split-phy QCN9274, while bringing up AP with MLO parameter enabled in QMI host capability request message. The QMI PHY capability learn is not required for split-phy QCN9274, if SLO/MLO is not supported within the same chip. Hence, disable QMI PHY capability learn support in split-phy QCN9274. 2024-02-02wifi: ath12k: add firmware-2.bin supportRaj Kumar Bhagat
Firmware IE containers can dynamically provide various information what firmware supports. Also it can embed more than one image so updating firmware is easy, user just needs to update one file in /lib/firmware/. The firmware API 2 or higher will use the IE container format, the current API 1 will not use the new format but it still is supported for some time. Firmware API 2 files are named as firmware-2.bin (which contains both amss.bin and m3.bin images) and API 1 files are amss.bin and m3.bin. Currently ath12k PCI driver provides firmware binary (amss.bin) path to MHI driver, MHI driver reads firmware from filesystem and boots it. Add provision to read firmware files from ath12k driver and provide the amss.bin firmware data and size to MHI using a pointer. Currently enum ath12k_fw_features is empty, the patches adding features will add the flags. 2024-01-19wifi: ath12k: add support for collecting firmware logBaochen Qiang
Currently there is no way to collect firmware log because firmware does not send it to host. Also host does not handle WMI_DIAG_EVENTID which is used by firmware to upload firmware log. So add support for it by firstly enabling firmware log upload via a QMI message, and secondly processing WMI DIAG event to expose it to userspace via trace event. This change applies to both WCN7850 and QCN9274. 2024-01-17wifi: ath12k: add QMI PHY capability learn supportKarthikeyan Periyasamy
Currently, the number of PHY is learned from the firmware service ready event message. However, on the QCN9274 platform, number of PHY is a variable parameter. To enable MLO capability in the QMI host capability request message, the driver needs the PHY count information earlier than the firmware service ready event. Therefore, a new QMI message, "PHY capability message", is introduced to retrieve this information. This message allows the driver to fill in the MLO parameter in the QMI host capability request message. If the new QMI PHY capability message fails, the default configuration in the HW params will be used. Per the QMI documentation "A client calling qmi_txn_init() must call either qmi_txn_wait() or qmi_txn_cancel() to free up the allocated resources." Unfortunately, in most of the ath12k messaging functions, when qmi_send_request() fails, the function returns without performing the necessary cleanup. Currently most of the ath12k QMI messaging functions define their struct qmi_txn variables with a {} initializer. However, all of these functions subsequently call qmi_txn_init(), and the very first thing that function does is zero the struct. Hence, the initializers are unnecessary. 2023-12-18wifi: ath12k: add support to search regdb data in board-2.bin for WCN7850Wen Gong
Currently ath12k only downloads the same regdb.bin file for all WCN7850 chips, actually ath12k needs to distinguish all different WCN7850 chips. This is to re-use the string type which includes bus, chip id, board id, vendor, device, subsystem-vendor, subsystem-device and variant for WCN7850 to distinguish different regdb in board-2.bin. ath12k will first load board-2.bin and search in it for the regdb data with the above parameters. If matched with one regdb data, download it to firmware. And if not, download regdb.bin instead. Add enum value ATH12K_BD_IE_REGDB and enum type ath12k_bd_ie_regdb_type to distinguish regdb data and board data since they are in the same file board-2.bin. 2023-08-02wifi: ath12k: correct the data_type from QMI_OPT_FLAG to QMI_UNSIGNED_1_BYTE ↵Wen Gong
for mlo_capable Currently, the encoding rule for field mlo_capable in struct qmi_wlanfw_host_cap_req_msg_v01 defined in array qmi_wlanfw_host_cap_req_msg_v01_ei uses type QMI_OPT_FLAG. Unfortunately, all ath12k firmware actually expects this field to be of type NON QMI_OPT_FLAG such as QMI_UNSIGNED_1_BYTE/QMI_UNSIGNED_8_BYTE... And as a result, firmware is unable to correctly decode the mlo_capable field. Change the ath12k definition as QMI_UNSIGNED_1_BYTE to match the firmware definition so that firmware can correctly parse the mlo_capable info from message QMI_WLANFW_HOST_CAP_REQ_V01 at wlan load time. This is just an accidental typo and that both WCN7850 and QCN9274 firmwares use QMI_UNSIGNED_1_BYTE. 2023-05-18wifi: ath10/11/12k: Use alloc_ordered_workqueue() to create ordered workqueuesTejun Heo
BACKGROUND ========== When multiple work items are queued to a workqueue, their execution order doesn't match the queueing order. They may get executed in any order and simultaneously. When fully serialized execution - one by one in the queueing order - is needed, an ordered workqueue should be used which can be created with alloc_ordered_workqueue(). However, alloc_ordered_workqueue() was a later addition. Before it, an ordered workqueue could be obtained by creating an UNBOUND workqueue with @max_active==1. This originally was an implementation side-effect which was broken by 4c16bd327c74 ("workqueue: restore WQ_UNBOUND/max_active==1 to be ordered"). Because there were users that depended on the ordered execution, 5c0338c68706 ("workqueue: restore WQ_UNBOUND/max_active==1 to be ordered") made workqueue allocation path to implicitly promote UNBOUND workqueues w/ @max_active==1 to ordered workqueues. While this has worked okay, overloading the UNBOUND allocation interface this way creates other issues. It's difficult to tell whether a given workqueue actually needs to be ordered and users that legitimately want a min concurrency level wq unexpectedly gets an ordered one instead. With planned UNBOUND workqueue updates to improve execution locality and more prevalence of chiplet designs which can benefit from such improvements, this isn't a state we wanna be in forever. This patch series audits all callsites that create an UNBOUND workqueue w/ @max_active==1 and converts them to alloc_ordered_workqueue() as necessary. WHAT TO LOOK FOR ================ The conversions are from alloc_workqueue(WQ_UNBOUND | flags, 1, args..) to alloc_ordered_workqueue(flags, args...) which don't cause any functional changes. If you know that fully ordered execution is not ncessary, please let me know. I'll drop the conversion and instead add a comment noting the fact to reduce confusion while conversion is in progress. If you aren't fully sure, it's completely fine to let the conversion through. The behavior will stay exactly the same and we can always reconsider later. As there are follow-up workqueue core changes, I'd really appreciate if the patch can be routed through the workqueue tree w/ your acks. Thanks. Currently the CNSS (Connectivity Subsystem) QMI feature is assigned to qmi_wlanfw_host_cap_req_msg_v01 request directly, this prevents chip-specific CNSS features from being added easily. Solve this by adding a new field qmi_cnss_feature_bitmap to hw_params so chip-specific CNSS features can be assigned to this field and later assigned to qmi_wlanfw_host_cap_req_msg_v01 request. 2023-03-22wifi: ath12k: fix memory leak in ath12k_qmi_driver_event_work()Rajat Soni
Currently the buffer pointed by event is not freed in case ATH12K_FLAG_UNREGISTERING bit is set, this causes memory leak. Add a goto skip instead of return, to ensure event and all the list entries are freed properly. 2023-01-18wifi: ath12k: Add support to read EEPROM caldataDinesh Karthikeyan
In current implementation, there is a overhead of maintaining caldata in the filesystem manually. To eliminate this overhead, for pci based chipsets, if calibration data is present in EEPROM, indicate firmware to download and read caldata from EEPROM. If the caldata is present in EEPROM, host is notified in the target capability. Upon this, the download request for the type ATH12K_QMI_FILE_TYPE_EEPROM is sent to firmware. With current implementation, the calibration data download request, is sent twice incorrectly because the request for ELF_TYPE and REGDB_TYPE are handled in a common api ath12k_qmi_load_bdf_qmi. Add new type as ATH12K_QMI_BDF_TYPE_CALIBRATION to send calibration data download request as a separate case. With this the firmware is indicated to read caldata from EEPROM. 2022-11-29wifi: ath12k: driver for Qualcomm Wi-Fi 7 devicesKalle Valo
ath12k is a new mac80211 driver for Qualcomm Wi-Fi 7 devices, first supporting QCN9274 and WCN7850 PCI devices. QCN9274 supports both AP and station; WCN7850 supports only station mode. Monitor mode is not (yet) supported. Only PCI bus devices are supported. ath12k is forked from an earlier version of ath11k. It was simpler to have a "clean start" for the new generation and not try to share the code with ath11k. This makes maintenance easier and avoids major changes in ath11k, which would have significantly increased the risk of regressions in existing setups. ath12k uses le32 and cpu_to_le32() macros to handle endian conversions, instead of using the firmware byte swap feature utilized by ath11k. There is only one kernel module, named ath12k.ko. Currently ath12k only supports HE mode (IEEE 802.11ax) or older, but work is ongoing to add EHT mode (IEEE 802.11be) support. The size of the driver is ~41 kLOC and 45 files. To make the review easier, this initial version of ath12k does not support Device Tree, debugfs or any other extra features. Those will be added later, after ath12k is accepted to upstream. The driver is build tested by Intel's kernel test robot with both GCC and Clang. Sparse reports no warnings.
